QVC Sues Andrew Lessman

Andrew Lessman has a new opponent.

Last year, when HSN decided to start selling the weightloss sprinkles, Sensa, Andrew pulled all his weight management products from HSN. He adamantly refused to sell his items on the same network that sold what he considered to be a complete scam. Andrew wrote at length about the issue on his blog and stood his ground. And it worked. You can read all about the infamous Lessman-Sensa Feud here, here, and here.

Now Andrew has set his sites on the Nature's Code vitamins and supplements sold on QVC. Last year, Dr. Taub stepped down as spokesperson for the brand and was replaced by Dr. Rouse. At the time, Queen Bea did some digging and had quite a bit to say about Dr. Rouse (check it out here).

This is what Andrew had to say:

"Question: When is a "Doctor" not a Doctor? Answer: When they appear with Nature's Code vitamins on QVC. When QVCs on-air doctor discusses health on TV, the public reasonably assumes he is a Medical Doctor (MD), but he is not, which unfortunately makes these broadcasts inherently misleading."

Andrew continued to toss calm and measured barbs at the new Nature's Code spokesperson and products throughout the video. And then he goes on to make two more videos. The first one denounces the Nature's Code Hair, Skin, and Nails supplement as being "bad," "ridiculous," and made of "99% additives." The video gave another thorough dressing down to their Nature's Code Resveratrol supplement.

How did QVC respond?

By suing.

Here is the quote from Andrew Lessman's blog:

Who would have thought that events that began just a few weeks ago with QVC’s use of my most popular product’s name (Healthy Hair Skin and Nails) would end with them suing me?! I took no legal action against QVC for their use of my product’s name and when I exercised my constitutionally protected right to free speech, QVC responded with a lawsuit. It is a disturbing and unfortunate turn of events, but I am grateful for all your words of support and please don’t worry about us. My company and I are in the hands of extremely experienced lawyers who will capably protect my interests against QVC’s meritless and unwarranted attack. As you might expect, there is much I could say at this time, but instead, I will let my lawyers’ soon-to-be-filed documents speak for themselves.

Rumor has it that the court papers that were filed state that QVC approached Andrew about coming back to the Q after Dr. Taub retired (in case you didn't know, Andrew started with the Q years ago before moving to HSN). I haven't actually seen the papers, so I don't know that for a fact. However, it sure appears as though QVC is at least trying to imitate Andrew with their revamped Nature's code line.

Since Andrew is a lawyer and is well aware of what you can and can not legally say or claim, I'm certain that he worded his blogs and videos in such a way as to provide himself sufficient legal cover ... unless he was trying to pick a fight. A lawsuit brings publicity and sheds light. Maybe he believes that the Nature's Code products will be revealed to be objectively inferior to his? Regardless, this should be interesting! Clash of the Home Shopping Titans!

    2. This guy is a snake-oil salesman just like all the hosts on QVC and HSN. I live in Las Vegas and not far from his manufacturing plant. He has lectured in some of the meetings I have attended and gave free samples to some of his vitamins, etc. I could go to Walmart, Target or Walgreens and get vitamins and have the same effect. His vitamins are very expensive. It's not the product, it's how you use customer service tactics to make it sound it's the best in the world, which is BULL!

    3. Shows how much you know, or don't know...You are making yourself sound ignorant. I go back to the days of famous nutritionist Adele Davis and have taken vitamins all my life. I quit years ago (until I discovered Andrew Lessman's.) With all the added fillers put into the cheaper brands, at those stores you talk about, no one at those companies can tell you what is going into them. Most of those hard pressed vitamins you allude to are so hard they never dissolve in your system and come right back out, plus they are being produced so cheaply with those fillers full of God knows what. Lessman's is the real deal. Please do your research before you spout off about his excellent products. You clearly do not know what you are talking about! What is all this noise from you doubters anyway? He is very legitimate and only his competitors would be stirring up this kind of dissention. Leave well enough alone and keep taking the crap you find at Walmart.

Sorry..I don't agree..I too take Lessmans' vitaminsThe quality is outstanding and the above person is correct in saying how long it takes for the others to dissolve. Some people are born with disorders ..and they need vitamins from the get go..others have strokes abuse drugs..have high stress levels..I could go on and on...but life is about choices...my choice is to use his supplements which I am ordering again today...thank you Andrew...

  4. Andrew Lessman sounds like a spoiled little brat who wants to monopolize the vitamin industry on home shopping channels. Newsflash...I have never nor would I ever buy Vitamins from a shopping channel. And because Andrew Lessman says the public "needs" whatever it is that he's selling at the moment we do? I don't think so. I hope the Q wins. HSN = Hooker Shopping Network.

    2. I personally think that Andrew Lessmans vitamins, are the best on the market in terms of quality. I am quite sure at this point in his life, yes he would be considered very well to do.This is a man who has spent 30 some odd years doing this, its obvious he has a passion for it and I don't believe that if he were just in it to make money, he'd be doing it all of these years later....you wouldn't devote your life to something the way he has just for money. He is far more knowledgeable in nutrition than most doctors are. Through Vitamin Angels, Andrew Lessman has donated millions of bottles of Pre-natal vitamins to woman all over the world, so who knows how many babies lives, he has made a difference for. I think he's pretty awesome if you ask me. His vitamins are not a waste of money, its money well spent. Most of these vitamin companies, make vitamins, skin care, and who knows what else...Andrew only makes Vitamins!

    3. and one more thing, a couple of years ago a QVC show host was selling vitamins of some sort, and actually referenced Andrew Lessman, not by name but said something along the lines of someone on another channel, who used to be a lawyer, and is now selling supplements.....it was so obvious who he was talking about,(and it was a negative comment) and he wasn't on QVC to much longer after that. Basically it was such a direct remark toward Andrew Lessman, I have no doubt that the show host could have been fired/sued over it! If you didn't know who Andrew Lessman was, then you wouldn't have paid any attention....but I just remember thinking I should call Pro-Caps labs and tell them about it! Love you Andrew!

    4. you said "on another channel" than said "he wasn't on QVC too much longer after that" which contradicts itself?

  5. Sounds like this Clash of the Titans will be more interesting than the insipid remake that people are crowding theaters to see and most critics say is junk in 3D.

This isn't the first time a a broadcaster trotted out a doctor of whom you could assume was the expert in the discipline he was talking about....but didn't quite have the credentials. For years New York's NBC affiliate had a weatherman, Dr. Frank Field...the audience assumed Dr. Field was a meteorologist; he was an optometrist who got into broadcasting by a twist of fate. But he was a "doctor", so no harm , no foul.

But he was not selling a product as is Dr. Rouse. To me, anyone in a situation like that should have his credentials made available to the viewers with each show.

I mean, my cousin Jeannie is a DOCTOR of English literature- but I sure as hell don't want her performing a triple by pass on me!

  6. I can only speak for the products I have used. The Secure shakes are good, but you do need a blender. I don't know how they mix them so thorough with just a spoon on air. I do have a slight complaint with the Women's Wellness supplements.I started having hot flashes, which is why I wanted to try these. They worked fine on the hot flashes. But I started to feel slight nausea. I stopped taking them this week and the feeling went away. I'm either going to try his Energy or the Women's Multi next, and if they don't work, I'll be on the next brand. It won't be Nature's Code though.

That said (and I even though I shop with all 3 networks) I hope Andrew wins his suit against QVC.

I also suffered from hot flashes and night sweats as well, among other symptoms of menopause. I started taking Andrew Lessman's Bone and Body Factor and they are completely gone. I feel so much better and I can actually get some sleep now.

In addition, I take Women's Complete and I love that, too.

Give that a try and see if it helps. Good luck.

  7. I love Andrew Lessman products and followed him to HSN when he left the Q. I trust him and know that I am getting what I pay for. I never liked the Nature's Code line and really didn't care for Dr. Taub, but he was a whole lot better than Dr. Rouse. I knew of Dr. Rouse before he came to the Q because he hawks natural foods on one of my local TV channels. He always seems a bit too chipper to me! You go, Andrew, and nail Q. They were stupid to get rid of him and I admire that he stands on his principles!!

  10. First thing I ever bought was Lessman's Secure Meal Replacement, only to find it contained "natural and artificial flavors" and "artificial" sweeteners. I am highly allergic to aspartame and a number of other artificial sweeteners, something he neglects to mention in his presentations to this day. All natural product? Don't make me laugh. So, I let my 30 days lapse and gave the big tub away & wouldn't touch anything else he made. Recently, however, I bought a # of his supplements to try.

As to QVC, yes I buy a lot there still, but they censor heavily negative comments on products, particuarly if they are new. They continue to let Robertas sell poisonous plants without warning home viewers & refused to publish every review I left about their plumeria. I watched this guy say "their lilies were not poisonous to cats" when a call-in viewer asked. I called immediately to complain, and still the next year this group is back selling. I listened to them say certain plants were safe for animals, only to look them up and find out they are not. Still they are selling.

As to Nature's Code, well their over 50 Women gave me diarrhea everytime by the 2nd day of taking. Never experienced that with any vitamin pack or single dose multivitamin. Don't even see anything in the ingredient list to do that. Do they think everyone over 50 is constipated? LOL. Have half a box sitting here.

And now Sensa -- did Mr. Lessman really argue it is a scam? Well, guess what? The minute I saw this product, I checked the ingredient list. WHAT a scam is very correct. The sad part is most people don't read or understand ingredients and are very driven by hype and promises.

    1. Yes, same here. I was also taking the Andrew Lessman secure meal replacement but not sure what was causing my allergic reaction till I stop consuming the secure and the signs and symptoms stopped. Like you said, It contained "natural and artificial flavors" and "artificial" sweeteners. I am also, allergic to aspartame and a number of other artificial sweeteners in all his secure meal replacement. Not sure why he doesn't mention anything about this - this is not all natural.

  14. I too love Andrew's supplements and will continue to order them. As a vitamin fan I did notice that Nature's Code had the same name for the Hair Skin & Nails as Andrew's and wondered how they could do that. I just saw the Nature's Code "Dr" on TV and really have no problem with him being a Naturopath. I believe there is room for all knowledge; his credentials are listed with each product. What I do have a problem with is the fact most of his products don't list the ingedients, such as drinks or bars. You have to call or order them to see what they include. I did order a drink from them, but found out it had artificial ingredients, color and sugar. Shame on QVC for not listing this information. I'm sticking with Andrew.

  16. Hello all...
I have many MANY medical problems at only 33 years old. I happened upon Andrew on HSN a few years ago and decided to take a chance. It was single-handedly the most beneficial thing I have done to improve my health. I now have more Andrew supplements than I care to admit, and I have every intention to continue taking them as long as I can afford to do so. I agree with other posts regarding the "Dr". I have NEVER had even a temptation to order from him as I have with Andrew. I liked how Andrew's supplemental facts were posted AND read on air. I do not like how QVC's supplement ingredients were not discussed in detail. Regardless..I'll NEVER go back to tablets and additives again. (I never ordered the Secure meal replacements because it says right on-line what is in the packets and I can't do artificial sweetners. I did NOT have to buy it to find this out. It was not a hidden fact.) I DO shop at both QVC and HSN..but if I had to chose one over the other..it would be HSN simply because of Andrew Lessman's supplements. Go Andrew!!!

Study after study has proven most supplements are absorbed around 10 to 15 percent 85 to 90 percent go's in the toilet, save your money for your family.

  20. Andrew Lessman has a huge ego and wants to control the entire vitamin market. He isn't a doctor either, he just plays one on tv.
I thought it was horrible how he controlled the sale of Sensa on HSN, stamping his feet at a competitor for his less-than-great weight loss line. It isn't a scam, it's a theory with some research behind it; the man selling the stuff is a neurosurgeon (not merely a lawyer like Lessman). People *should* have the right to try a product and return it if it doesn't help them, rather than have Andrew Lessman make the choice for them.
I agree that some of Lessman's vitamins are good quality, however they are extremely expensive and he has gotten obscenely rich off of the huge profits.

  21. Sensa is not sold on HSN, it is sold on ShopNBC

  22. I have questioned several of Andrew Lessman's products and their sources. It's amazing how many people are taken in by his sales pitch. Before purchasing any supplements, I research them carefully and buy them on-line much cheaper than HSN sells them for. Besides, I have pretty much stopped trusting HSN after seeing how many products are returned and re-sold to someone else. I don't care for their unconventional methods. QVC lost my business a very long time ago. They have become a cheap discount store for many things. At least HSN accepts everyone's comments where QVC refuses to print anything negative. They sell Grandma's cake for a ridiculously high price, the same cake you can purchase at Wegman's for less then $10.00 without shipping or handling. When I mentioned that the cake was really good and that it could be purchased at Wegman's (where most of the food comes from that QVC uses on it's cooking shows) they said my comment was not up to their standards and they declined to print it. Time to get off the couch and buy locally or directly from the source on-line probably a much better grade.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Andrew Lessman should mind his own business. Yes, QVC has gotten really expensive! Plus they don't offer any 'deals' like ways to get money off, etc...like the other channels. HSN is really great at this (offering discounts). If I see Ryka anymore on QVC...I know it's their brand but give it a break already and why not throw in pretty styles while we're at it.. On ShopNBC that ditzy one has GOT TO GO... Allison Waggoner, Kendy too (too bossy)!!

  25. If you look at the ingredients for Sensa, it is the same main ingredient in the "do not eat" packets they pack with new purses and things, maybe that is how it works: by poisoning you into becoming skinny! So Andrew is right on that, I do not care for his Secure shakes, however, because they contain artificial sweeteners like sucralose that cause cancer. I would rather have the shakes taste blander than contain poisonous ingredients. I like his sleeping pills but if I take them more than 2 nights in a row, they make me hallucinate. His other pills are okay. That's funny that QVC is suing him, I like their beauty products, at least they have name- brand skin care and make-up and not made up sh*t like Serious Skincare (who ever heard of that??) How old is Andrew Lessman? He looks hella young to have opened a company in 1979- I think all these old ladies are just hot for him and that's why they keep buying his pills.

  27. FYI - Lessman is NOT a doctor, but he rarely corrects anyone who calls in to HSN and addresses him as "Dr Lessman". He is a businessman, and a lawyer...and unfortunately for those who get in his way, he has deep pockets and a known temper, and will very readily spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal fees in order to avoid paying someone tens of thousands of dollars - even when that other person is in the right.

I'll make a small assumption that you are not educated in biochemistry nor organic chemistry, nor biophysiology, therefore; that leaves a 'void' of knowledge, a.k.a ignorance. Spewing and spouting off as a naysayer causes others to not take your comments as legitimate. Andrew is well into his 50's in age, is extremely educated in the biosciences, as well as food and drug laws and holds several degrees. Unless there are facts to spew and spout, take something for anxiety...chill out, get a life with PEACE!

  29. Kudos to Loqua Scious. I have been taking Andrew's vitamins for years and none compare. He is so educated in what he sells and makes only legitimate statements backed by science and not sales hype. In fact, if you watch him he gets so involved in educating his customers on the benefits and science behind certain supplements that he forgets to sell his product. He really cares about people and the quality of his products. He also cares about our planet...do you know that his manufacturing facility is solar powered. I don't care if he is not a doctor, besides most doctors don't know about nutritional benefits as they are trained by large pharmaceutical companies who make millions treating symptoms of things...he is a biochemist and a genuine caliber person...nuff said...I will always take his products and although I shop QVC...shame on them, Andrew is just doing what he always does....making sure consumers are getting what they are searching for.

  33. Andrew Lessman doesn't take calls during any of his shows for legal reasons, due to people calling making medical claims, so I don't know who is calling him Dr. Lessman. If people write that in the reviews/comments, that's not his fault. I've never heard him or anyone on HSN call an MD or Doctor and I watch his presentations all the time. I use a few of his products. They are a bit pricey, but if you read the ingredients in many of the store brands, there are a lot of additives. If I'm able to find a product equal to his elsewhere for less, then I will buy those, if I can't, then I buy his. Simple as that. All of the ingredients are listed on HSN and his website, so there shouldn't be any excuses to whine about not knowing the ingredient after the fact. It's the buyer's responsibility to find this out before they buy.

  36. Qvc's Loss! I have actually been on his Hair Skin Nails vitamins for 2 years now! I just posted a blog review of these vitamins (as I have taken them for 2 solid years and thought to provide a comprehensive review! )

    http://atshanasplace.blogspot.com/2012/03/best-supplement-for-faster-hair-growth.html

Got my husband and my mother on them, but we have had mixed reviews. I love them though! AND I really like Andrew Lessman's stuff! Check out my blog for more info!

  37. GOOD FOR YOU ANDREW LESSMAN! I could care less if Andrew had M.D. behind his name! I have studied vitamins, minerals, etc for years and he is "RIGHT ON THE MONEY" with his knowledge. I think there are a LOT of miserable people who are jealous of him and would rather come home from the Dr. with yet, another prescription of something trying to slowly cripple them - be proactive people. It' about time somebody humbled QVC. I bet you the dysfunctional Big Pharma and FDA (I call them the Gestapo) come after him next. We need to educate ourselves and "speak up" when we see fillers/junk in our shakes & vitamins. I trust you 100% Andrew!!!!!!

  38. lol Jealous of Lessman? That's your argument?

  39. Thank God the FDA doesn’t regulate our vitamins… yet. I can only imagine our near future where anything that actually helps us will be taken off the market or they will steal the information and destroy anyone who sells and makes a profit from it. I’m surprised that we are still allowed to purchase Omega products on our own and they are not all controlled by Big Pharma. If you don’t need supplements to survive with any quality of life and you don’t notice a difference taking his products, hooray for you! How lucky, not to be cursed with illnesses or disease that prohibit your body from making and absorbing the vitamins and required supplements on its own. Not all of us are sitting at the drive through and complaining about our health.

Yes I am a fan of Mr. Lessman. I started with his Glucosamine and chondroitin and within 3 days I threw out the stuff I bought at GNC. Scoliosis and Arthritis are only the beginning of my health issues. Frankly I still love QVC, and if you don’t Love, Love, Love, Lisa Robertson, change the channel. I having principles is a rare and honorable thing these days, and I think normally they are sold for a price. It’s sad that we live in a world where going to court is the only way to solve our disagreements.

  45. Most doctors know zip about vitamins.
I will trust a knowledgeable self taught person over a Doctor who is trained at only writing prescription drugs. Most people who bad mouth vitamins & organic food are on multiple drugs and are in poor health.
QVC is hurting & has lost many customers due for one the change in their return policy. Keep up the Good Work Andrew!

  46. I'm a firm believer in Andrew Lessman's vitamins after using Women's Wellness. This was the first vitamin that I started with and when I noticed my perimenopause symptoms subsided, that's when I knew that I wanted his vitamins all the time. I hope I will always have access until I leave this world.

  49. I like the vitamins by Andrew Lessman, however I think he has a Napoleonic complex and wants to be the vitamin king of the world. He should stop trying to control and overpower other companies, he's already super-rich, does he need to have ALL the money?!
I dislike him as a person but the vitamins are good quality compared to many out there. Most are too expensive, though.
I wish he'd quit pointing the fingers at others for either not being a doctor or not being correct even when they ARE a doctor (thinking of the neurosurgeon who created Sensa). He's a lawyer, not a doctor, and it makes him look bad in my eyes. Have some respect for other companies out there, you are not the be-all end-all, Lessman.

  50. Just a serious 'heads up' on the issue of supplements---
Google and check out the history of CODEX i.e. codex alimentarius.

Big Pharma would LOVE to get control of nutritional supplements and has been trying for at least the past 50 years (that I am aware of) We in the US have thus far stopped them --- on the grounds that they are NOT a drug but a natural FOOD product,

Latest move is to try a back door to the US via politically generated international trade agreements -- and they have had some recent success in Europe.

As with anything you value, educate yourself if you want to keep it. There is always someone who would like to take it from you for their own profit.

Our own apathy and laziness has allowed our country and our food supply to devolve into the mess we live with today.

  51. I like the fact that A.L. talks about all of his products in a knowledgable way, and prepares us for what is happening inside our bodies when we take his supplements. And I believe him, that's why I take them.

  52. I bought a couple of Andrew Lessman's vitamins, but after doing some research, I found much better quality cheaper. There are some ingredients in some of his products that I don't wish to put in my body, that's why I went on a search. It took me awhile, but the time was worth it.

    1. Anonymous: I seriously would like to know what products you found from your research, because I would like to pay less money for vitamins. Andrew Lessman's are very, very expensive. I am 68 years old and live on one small budget - and I need to cut costs, but still be able to buy quality vitamins to put in my body. I know that it took you a while, because I'm now researching cancer-causing chemicals and toxins found in our skincare and cosmetics out there on the market. Thank you, 9/20/2015

  56. I respectfully disagree with you. Although eating well and exercise are key to optimum health, most people do not get enough nutrition from what they eat. I personally take Andrew Lessman's vitamins, ie., liver enzymes, cranberry, etc. and have noticed a hugh difference! My liver enzyme levels were off the charts and along with diet and exercise, I took Andrew's supplement and my levels returned to normal in 2-3 months! I am beyond pleased with his vitamins. They never upset your stomach and are of excellent quality. Take a look at his reviews on HSN. Thousands of people cannot be wrong! I believe he is honest and cares about people.
