HSN vendor-of-all-trades, Suzanne Somers, seems to be slowly getting shut out of HSN. She certainly hasn't been getting the air time or good time slots she once did.
Take a quick look at the Suzanne Somers Fashion page on HSN. I count about ten pieces of clothing, most of which are on clearance.
What's going on? Is HSN dropping her fashion line?
This just makes the recent slight with the gold mesh necklace seem more suspicious.
Some customers claim her quality has suffered over the years. Maybe she's not selling like she used to. Maybe she has a high return rate or bad product reviews. Or maybe HSN is trying to get away from the "Thigh Master" image.
For all you Suzanne fans, she has a great new website up and running. You can order an autographed copy of her new book, Breakthrough, about health and bio-identical hormone replacement and read the first chapter free. All her products are for sale (or will be soon) and there is even a community forum section under construction.
Whatever your opinion of Suzanne--and, trust me, everyone has one!--she has created an empire with the notoriety that she got off a silly little sitcom in the Seventies. How many other actors have had so much success parlaying a little bit of fame?
BTW, it's California Gold Rush Day on the Q today. You might want to check out Queen Bea's take on all those fruity tooty colors of gold ... and it's just getting worse!

The end of her reign on HSN would be a welcome relief.
ReplyDeleteI love how she says it was the best decision of her 'career'. She was in one minor sitcom, had a bit-part in American Graffiti, then announced an off-Broadway show for which even HSN couldn't *give* the tickets away! That's not a career, it's a delusion. Goodbye and good riddance.
I may not like everything about Suzanne but I do admire her desire to share information on health, bioidenticals, cooking, etc... & trying to educate women as much as possible. She hasn't been as successful at it for whatever reason but she seems sincere about promoting healthy, smart choices in diet, medicine & health.
ReplyDeleteQVC Gold Rush = Tutti Fruity Gold !
ReplyDeleteIt would be very unwise of HSN to somehow f**k with Suzanne Somers. She could jump ship to QVC in a hot second and it would work out great for her and *everybody* in the business knows that. She is one of the few brands that is self sustaining, her audience is devoted.
ReplyDeleteNow, I would agree that her quality has decreased. However, recent shows have highlighted the best quality she's had in a decade, new factor perhaps but viewers have commented on it.
Suzanne is going to have a renaissance, on January 29th she is hitting the motherload...yes kids, she's getting an hour...on OPRAH.
I like Suzanne. I never bought anything from her but she is funny and interesting to watch.
ReplyDeleteI HATE the colors of cold. I think they look cheesy and cheap!
SS is a legend in her own lunchtime, the epitome of a self-created "personality." In a way, she reminds me of former prez George Bush. She was roundly criticized for her book on hormones since it had so much mis-information.
ReplyDeleteAs for tutti-fruity gold, I guess it's us consumers who are truly the only ones who can put an end to this colored gold nonsense. I mean, how much yellow, white or even rose gold can we buy? The sellers have to come up with something "new" and different. I don't want green gold, do you?
Just a comment or two from a somewhat casual observer.
ReplyDeleteIn a local paper there was an article about infomercials, and Anthony Sullivan (who works with HSN productions quite a bit) did a quick "Q and A" with the writer. Sullivan is of the opinion that infomercials are probably recession proof. There is no middleman, and your audience usually consists of motivated buyers who have tuned in because they are really interested in yoiur product, and yours alone...they'll stick with you for 30 minutes of hard sell.
Then while looking at HSN's message board there was a question about Connie Stevens and her line of cosmetics. Stevens was a frequent vendor on HSN years ago, but eventually quit HSN and sold directly through her website, infomercials, and selected outlets....and she became one of the richest women in Hollywood in the process.
So my question is this.....is Suzanne Somers using the Stevens' model for herself, eliminating the middleman, keeping costs lower during a recession, and passing the savings on to the consumer?
If so....and I am speculating on this, I have no knowledge one way or the other....it might be a sound strategy. It might not be a situation of HSN dumping Somers, but Somers leaving because she may be in a situation where she doesn't want or need HSN anymore.
Just a theory, nothing more, nothing less.
Information or misinformation, good products or not-so-good products, SS means well & her audience senses that from her. I personally have never purchased anything from her but I don't mind listening to her talk about nutrition & what she's learned.
ReplyDeleteAs for the tutti-frutti gold, the colors are pretty but why on earth would anyone want to cover up perfectly good gold w/ a coating that makes it look like fashion jewelry? I just don't get it. Plus it limits what you can do with it. Gold jewelry is like blue jeans, you can wear it with anything until it's COLORED gold. Tsk Tsk Tsk, again I say, it's all sleight of hand to get consumers looking a different direction so they don't notice (or mind so much) the disappearing gram weight. Note the gold products sold on Gold Rush day filled w/ silicone. Still beautiful but pumped up - gold getting silicone implants!
I just think that SS is tacky. I think she got into too many product lines and quality suffered. I also think she turned off a lot of people with her whining after the fire destroyed her home. She was insured, it's not like she was destitute and living in her car. For her to go on and on and basically tell people to buy stuff so she could recover was in bad taste.
ReplyDeleteIf SS jumped ship to QVC some buyers might follow but I think her time has passed. She needs to just stick with her website.
I used to be a loyal customer of Suzanne Somers. I used to watch every show of every visit and usaully I would purchase several items every month. I loved the unusaul styles that didn't look like everything you see in every mall in America. Then changes started to happen; the prices went up,up,up and the quality went way down! It became almost impossible to find shoes, boots, or handbags in her line made of genuine leather or clothing made of natural fibers. Do you think Suzanne wears plastic shoes and polyester? No, but she's happy to foist these dreggs off on her loyal customers! This is based off the one I bought in Paris and I'd hate to tell you how much mine cost! she exclaims, regularly. The finery Suzanne wears is no doubt deductable as a buisness expense on top of it!....I'm sure she's laughing all the way to the bank. Well, I for one, have spent all the time and money on postage returning the crap she's been peddling in recent years that I'm ever going to spend! Oh, and the other thing that makes me want to puke, is when she looks in the camera and gets all misty about how much she loves her country ....well how about utilizing workers from the good old U.S.A., then Suzanne? It certainly would go a long way to improve the atrocious workmanship on those toggs you've been sending out that are made in China. That wouldn't allow you to make quite as much profit, though; would it? Puleeeeezzzee!
ReplyDeleteRe: Suzanne Somers...her head will swell to triple it's size after she is on Oprah. Why would ANYONE take medical advice from SS?? Give me a break. She is just making more money off the poor fools who will listen to her and think she knows what she is talking about.
ReplyDeleteSame story with the jewelery; her line used to be almost all sterling silver or vermeil, with c.z's that she would say were hand cut and hand set(I have my doubts about that,as they roll of the assembly line in China). There would be only an occaisional piece made of crystals. Now, in recent years, the stuff is virtually ALL crystals or just plain glass, and it's set in mystery metal! Additionally, her attempts to sell things that are different from H.S.N.'s other vendors have resulted in many styles that are so hideous and tacky, I sometimes find myself wondering if she's serious? It literally looks to me like something a child would be playing dress up with. As a long time customer, I feel insulted!
ReplyDeleteI purchased a lot of Suzanne's trilliant jewelry. They are still in great shape. They were my favorite bracelets. I never got into tge tuti fruiti colors being referenced but My bracelets were great!
DeleteI am going back a few years, but I remember a time when Colleen Lopez was out ill and had to go to work just for a Suzanne Somers show because Suzanne wanted Colleen. Suzanne showed her great "friendship" between these two by insisting that Colleen come in sick to do her show. Suzanne showed her true colors and what she is all about -- money. I felt so badly for Colleen that night because she was barely functional. SS is selling over-priced junk and takes advantage of the shoppers who think she is so great. And as far as her food items go, she is ridiculous. I hope it's true that she is gone, and I say good riddance to Suzanne Somers. The next one to go should be that annoying Joy Mangano who is on non-stop hawking her stuff.
ReplyDelete"The next one to go should be that annoying Joy Mangano who is on non-stop hawking her stuff."
ReplyDeleteOh, from your lips!.... At last, someone else who can't abide that irritating narcissist! Selling coat hangers smothered in Fuzzy-Felt does not make you a deity. Someone needs to explain that to her -- if she can ever stop talking about herself long enough??
Suzanne Somers she's the popular TV and film actress in popular culture throughout the world.
DeleteI missed her the former actress portrayed as Christine Snow in Three's Company TV series.

DeleteAshley Tisdale she's is the dream role to portray Suzanne Somers in her biopic TV melodrama film coming soon to Lifetime Network.
DeleteSUZANNE IS MOVING TO SHOPNBC. SHE IS LEAVING HSN AFTER 17 YEARS!!! GO FIGURE
ReplyDeleteI wish Suzanne Somers the best of luck where ever she may go. HSN kept bleeping her and restricting her from presenting what she wanted to. So, I guess she got a little "fed-up". I would too. You go Suzanne!
ReplyDeletei've been reading all of these review/posts. i tend to agree with the general thought....i'm suprised her jewelry & clothing made it through hsn's so called high standard quality control. good luck at the stuffy overpriced world at shop~nbc diane c
ReplyDeleteSuzanne was peddling some facial exercisor,,sasying it will take years off your face like it does hers..lmao her face has been through how many lifts? how many eye lifts? Go to a mirror and put your hands on both sides of your face and pull back,,thats what she looks like,,lips all collagen injected and stretched..also the same for that Marilyn Miglin,,man o man.. her face is tighter then a wound up rubber band ready to snap lol,,same for Adrienne,,trying to say it was all theses creams that made her face so tight,,honey,,it was the surgeries, do you gals think we're stupid? And don't get me started on Joan Rivers !!! roflmao
ReplyDeleteIm lost how Adrienne can get away with how her beauty products keep her so young and fresh looking
ReplyDeleteMaybe the public and viewers dont realize her beloved husband is a top of the line plastic surgen......hummm very curious indeed
Joy Mangano, Suzanne Somers and Alan. What a crew. I watched SS on her launch on NBC, and hoped that Alan wouldn't show up. But, he did. Get rid of him altogether, he's not needed. SS is still the same talking over everyone. What an air bag.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that people can't spell. Just look at all the errors in the comments.
ReplyDeletespelling police go away ,people are just having fun.quit being a pain..
ReplyDeleteApparently you don't know how to punctuate either.
ReplyDeleteI did that so you can bitch more and it worked.
ReplyDeleteHow much did you pay to have someone type that sentence.
ReplyDeleteLOL...FUNNY,,,I bought a SS watch one time on HSN.It is still very pretty,Needs a new battery.I am a "watch freak"...I LUV Victoria W's items on HSN,,,have 3 watches. They are stunning & quality. She is a very classy lady(Victoria)...U can find some of her items on HSN clearance for great prices.I found my last 2 watches theres. They are lovely.A stone fell out of my 1st watch I got from VW & HSN replaced it without a problem...
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Victoria P on QVC???
That is one fakey, syrupy one...I also hate Typos.I know I make them, but I just hate it when I do!!!
I don't have OCD either...
I wish Queen Bea would come back.
The cat fights are sooooooooooo funny!!!
;((
FYI: Suzanne's husband used to be a T.V. game show host not a plastic surgeon. Good grief! You must be thinking of Victoria Principal. She was married to Harry Glassman, the plastic surgeon. They are now divorced.
ReplyDeleteThe last post from anonymous on June 12, 2010 stated how Suzanne's hubby was a game show host, not a plastic surgeon. This person obviously mis-read the post from last Sept. That person was talking about Adrienne's husband being a plastic surgeon, not Suzanne's.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne's husband was not a plastic surgeon, for Pete's sake! He was a real estate developer. Just because someone has a ton of plastic surgery doesn't mean their husband is a plastic surgeon.
DeleteAnd for those who don't like Suzanne Somers, and you're entitled to your opinion, she passed away on 10/15/2023. So she's gone for good. I thought her prices were way too high, and the quality of her products diminished, but she brought some information about choices to help us. No, I don't look at her as a martyred saint, I look at her as an entertainer who had more to give than just that. I do believe, once she fought cancer the first time, she was trying to help people live better.
I was returning 90% of what I was buying from HSN, so I stopped shopping. Most of their host lie, especially when it comes to jewelry. They don't list the metals used in earrings. Most are mystery metals and yet the host will tell you it's an investment. Yes, an investment in their bank account. I've gone back to supporting my local retailers. Keep jobs at home.
ReplyDeleteAshley Tisdale she's portray the role of Suzanne Somers in her biopic TV movie to Lifetime Network soon.
DeleteSuzzane Summers is one big joke....she is just a money hungry fake
ReplyDeleteSuzanne first went to QVC before HSN and they did'nt want her.
ReplyDeleteShe says it in one of her books. She sells junk and very greedy and if anyone thinks she wears that crap in real life are fooling themselves!
Didn't Suzanne's departure from HSN happen at exactly the same time that she lost her Malibu beach house in a horrendous "wildfire"? That's kicking her when she was really down
ReplyDeleteThe fire was at the beginning of 2007, and she was fired from HSN the end of summer 2009, so no, it wasn't at the same time. I do think they handled things very badly with her; like her or not, you don't just dump a successful vendor.

Ashley Tisdale a dream role wants to portray the role of actress Suzanne Sommers to TV movie soon.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a bit of a stretch for Ashley, playing Suzanne, but let's see how she does. Tom Cruise pulled off a perfect Lestar in Interview with the Vampire and it was totally unexpected.
