Is Pamela McCoy a Copycat?

Louis Dell'Olio, designer of the Linea fashion line on QVC, is in his own words "livid!"

Why?

Well, it seems as though a certain host/designer at ShopNBC has stolen his design.

Take a look at this Linea jacket from the front:

And close up:

Now let's move onto Exhibit B, shall we?

Once again, take a look at this particular Pamela McCoy jacket from the front:

So, what do you think?

Here's what Louis had to say about it on his QVC blog:

To my amazement and DISGUST....I saw MY JACKET, copied to a "T" by Ms. Pamela McCoy. Let me assure you, the design is MINE and she copied it. I was under the impression Ms. McCoy was a host....at best a host/stylist....not a designer. My jacket was first introduced Oct. of 07 in black and red. It was reordered and we introduced "Purple" as the new color this year. This particular jacket, A74432, was part of a series of what I called my "Leather and Stud" embellished suede jackets, [A14945, A1284, A37843]. .....I CAN TELL YOU WHERE Ms. McCoy got her idea from.....shame on her! If you should ever run into that lady again you can proudly tell her she got ripped off.....You have the original...she has the copy.....and she paid $48 more for it to boot!.....Monday morning I will have a conversation with my manufacturer and my buyer at QVC to see if anything can be done about this blatant copy. Unfortunately, in this country, there are no laws against it. I am on the board of directors of the CFDA [Council of Fashion Designers of America], and we are having meetings right now, in Congress, on copy rite laws protecting clothing and accessory design. I thank you for bringing this to my attention and be assured you have the ORIGINAL!

Louis Dell'Olio was so upset by the stolen design that he had his lawyer write a letter to the CEO of ShopNBC to complain about the design infringement. Unfortunately for Mr. Dell'Olio, ShopNBC is on the verge of total anarchy and collapse, so they probably don't care very much about a jacket. Plus, their CEO gets all kinds of scathing letters. This is just another one to throw onto the pile.

So far, here's what's come of the letter to newly-crowned ShopNBC CEO, Mr. Buck:

A last word on the Pamela McCoy incident. As I mentioned, my lawyer sent a letter, on my behalf, to the CEO of Shop NBC. We received no response..........their silence.......speaks volumns.

In case you didn't already know, Louis Dell'Olio knows a thing or two about the fashion industry. According to the Council of Fashion Designers of America:

Louis Dell'Olio attended Parsons School of Design, and from there moved on to work as a major designer at Anne Klein for nearly 20 years, receiving numerous prestigious industry awards including an induction into the COTY Hall of Fame in 1984. In 1995, Mr. Dell'Olio became a consultant to Marzotto USA to assist in the design and merchandising of its Accento bridge collection of women's apparel. Also in 1995, in a position unprecedented in the fashion industry, Mr. Dell'Olio was engaged by a joint venture among Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Holt Renfrew as design director for a unique designer collection of women's apparel. Since 1995, Mr. Dell'Olio has been designing a line of furs and shearlings under his own label for the Le Gar Company, which retails in Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Marshall Fields, Neiman Marcus, and boutiques across the country. He also designs women's and men's shoes and men's suits. In 2000, he entered into an agreement with QVC to design an exclusive line of sportswear under the label LINE A by Louis Dell'Olio, which was so successful during its first year that Mr. Dell'Olio won QVC's prestigious Q Star Award for Product Concept of the Year.

  1. Wow--that's pretty blatant. I've never liked Pamela McCoy's clothing line, but this makes it even worse. She can't even come up with her own cr@ppy ideas!

  2. I hope our dear Louis follows through and gets at least an apology if not a monetary adjustment for what Ms Mc Coy has done. Shame on her.

  4. The same factory in China manufactures for both of these brands - Tiger J. I'm sure that the leftover pieces in black were offered up to ShopNBC to clear out inventory.

    ReplyDelete
  5. If that's true about the factory, then Louis really needs to get an exclusivity clause or something!

Is this the place to which you wre referring?

  6. No surprise here, either. It's always amusing that Mrs. McCoy "challenges" anyone to find a better "bang for their buck" concerning her line, but yet appears to prefer St. John over her own goods. Speaks volumes.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I checked out the St. John prices and I think that just one of those pieces is more expensive than my entire wardrobe. In fact, I just got a cute pair of Nine West jeans at Sam's Club yesterday for $15, which is a much better price point than $1500!

    1. Actually, this statement is untrue. I have Probably 20 Pam jackets leather and Lamb. Margie lamps (well MUCH higher quality than the Q OR the store, btw, rugs and furniture, all of which I have been pleased. Actually Pans dyes and leathers are superior to those I've found anywhere else for Three to 5the times the price. NOW as for the copying, many designers do this.drawing "inspiration" Look around the stores, fashion mags, etc.Its EVERYWHERE ..I Luke Louis, and I can see his position, to a point. But I have to say... Pams design is waaaay cuter and OBVIOUSLY a more flattering cut...maybe That's why he's so miffed. ;)

  12. Outraged Consumer!!!!!July 22, 2009 at 1:37 AM

I recently purchased 4 fur coats from ShopNBC. They mailed them together in small box. I spoke to PamMcoy LIVE on air, she acknowledged on-going problem Never contacted me to fix problem as promised! Annette at President's line would not pay me for lost button or packaging. Read Their return policy on back of invoice. UNREAL!!!! They keep commiting FRAUD!!

  13. Innocent Customer Falsely AccusedJuly 22, 2009 at 1:43 AM

Also if you do not receive an item in shipping, they are trying to get customers to sign a paper with no order numbers, Nbc logo etc. and have it notorized or no refund. An Attorney has informed me that this practice is not only absurd, a tactic not to pay customer, and could be used falsely for other documents!!How is this company still operating doing this?

  14. I have 3 very nice and very well made Pam McCoy jackets. Also their jewlery is so much better and bigger than any crap from QVC.

    1. I agree! You QVC lovers are being ripped off with Such high prices! Check out the prices before you buy because not all of them is all that great. Pamela McCoy's products are
very well made and I got tons of them and it serve me well. If her jackets are sold onQVC, it will be higher price than ShopNBC due to it's material and quality..
No wonder a lot of Hollywood stars sell on QVC now because they know the buyers will pay regardless!
Everything on QVC is over priced! Those
Designers are just Getting famous because of the sells pitch Promotions ( to make it sound so nice) but truly there are so many designers out there who has better products for less.

ShopNBC carry well known high end designers that QVC doesn't!

    2. I like both places, but I agree that many things are High in the Q , BUT...... YOU just need to be an informed savvy shopper, because there are SOOOOmany way good deals and things that you WILL NOT find out in retail. And I personally disagrees LOOOVVVVEEEE to be original (in my area anyway) ;)

  15. I don't doubt that "Mr Dell'Olio" is a high end designer who like all the others say on the shopping networks "designs 4 the stars". but come on people lets just keep it real. either he or his buyer went to the chinese manufacturer sat in a room & pointed to each item they were buying that day afterwhich the sweat shops were put to work. All of the networks have buyers & their jobs are to BUY crap that they think us the customer would purchase... they put their names on it & hock it 24/7. This is what they ALL do w/their lines on ALL of the networks. Mr Dell'Olio is gonna play the "im outraged" game because he calls himself mr one of a kind & this is my design as does Ms Mccoy which is a bunch of bullsh*t! because in reality he & saint QVC are BUSTED & we have this jacket to prove it!! so please don't fall for the drama of the legal letter sent to SNBC crying foul. it's fair game in ALL of the chinese manufacturing & sweat shops!

    1. This is hilarious to me. Pamela McCoy has been designing and reinventing the above "Scuba" style jacket for YEARS on SNBC/SHQ. This style has been so popular throughout the years that she reinvents them with different fabrics and embellishments to follow new trends, but on the same "Scuba" body hugging silhouette. Yes its true that she Manufactures in China and yes the Mfgr. keep the former design specs and plates so they can keep up with the changing fabric requests, etc. One year PM was offering 8 different colors of her lamb leather Scuba jackets in one show. DL didnt design this jacket! He was sold the confidence that it was "an original design" - UM didnt anybody ask WHOSE? It was a quick and easy order, all DL had to do was pick fabric and accessories - no need to spend the cost of programming and setting up new plates- so to the MFR its just like a re-order, therefore the price to QVC is low, and now QVC can compete with style normally seen on SNBC and at such a great price they beat SHNB's own price by $50. At least PM has an actual team that actually puts an effort into her collections, matching dye lots amongst her clothing and accessories being sold together- is one thing I love about her but I really could go on. The quality is consistently high. If DL is even faintly "livid" its because QVC is foul and they hung HIS name on their little back door deal with the Mfr. to make some quick money with "someones" "original" design. Yeah, that designer was Pamela McCoy. DL's people didnt know, but QVC buyers did and made it happen anyway- who will notice? :}. DL needs to pissed that QVC used him like that. Pamela has nothing to do with the shark rivalry and greed thats happening behind closed doors at QVC. She's got her own shark tank at work, no need to go looking elsewhere! I usually say "dont overlook the obvious" but sometimes what is obvious to one person isnt obvious to the person right next to them. Maybe some TV/online shoppers are not the PM collector like I am. If you havent followed her design history of the past 15 years I guess I could make an assumption that his came out before hers. Pamelas clothes are actually a good investment and heres why: two weeks ago my home was broken into and I had to make an inventory list and replacement cost for each item for my insurance claim. To my delight many of the PM designs are $100 more on Ebay than what I paid. Most clothing depreciates in value once you purchase it, but it seems there are enough serious PM collectors out there to keep a brisk market for her products, new or gently used! gotta love that~ I dont think DL can say the same. Just my 2 bits

  16. Not FooledBy VALUEVISION 2August 24, 2009 at 4:23 AM

What is going on???? Shop Nbc is bringing back all the lying reject hosts from the failed VALUEVISION, and coping QVC!!! Not that QVC is much better but has everyone really forgiven the multiple scams! ShopNBC is trying to convince people that they are new and improved. I promise you they have not!! PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED. They are paying $10.00 to people who will call and speak on air, hence all of the testimonials!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I called in and gave a good testimonial on the air to support and highly praise Lukastyle and received no such $10.00. That is so silly! I love the clothes, called in to support the line! I think some of you are just making up crazy lies because they sound titillating. I have been a long time customer of all 3 shopping channels & there are no "scams." They take back returns & refund money without a hitch. Everything is made in China these days folks, whether it comes from a shopping channel or your local WalMart!

    ReplyDelete
  18. ShopNbc IS IN FACT!!!!! giving 10.00 to talk hence, if you did not receive it they ripped YOU off! I have no reason to lie. Thank You for proving my point. You will be crying when they rip you off. Alot of common complaints about this network. You want more proof? ShopNBC has same hosts etc. from VALUEVISION!!Or are we all lying about VALUEVISION too???

    ReplyDelete
  19. They gave me 10.00 as well and are so full of it. Their clothes are a joke on the mannequins and the models. Just because the clothes are cheap like their stunts, doesn't mean people should buy it. Who knew that the hosts at ShopNbc are so sexy to some. It must be the stretch pants and snuggies they are selling. How irrestible, I love cheap fabrics! You Too?

  20. Hey, loved when the button fell off the Once Only faux fur Black Angora, LIVE on air! ShopNBC is SO big on Quality! By the way they claim to be the ELITE network!!!

  21. All of the shopping networks have had their ups and downs, the economy affected everyone from the buying to the seller to the consumer. I have been a customer to all of them, and none of the "wicked things" mentioned previously, have been an issue. I remain a loyal customer to both QVC and SNBC.

  22. Pam seems to think she's a queen, yet she has poor grammar (only one host knows how to use lie/lay, and that 'fewer' refers to number and 'less' to quantity (the redhead who sings, Connie). And The Great Pam treated poor Wes very condescendingly. It made me feel so sorry for him. I wonder if they're getting a divorce. When he's mentioned by a caller, her eyes glaze over. Oh yes, the most intelligent, literate host was Bill Fahey and he disappeared. And he had a sense of humor! My faves are Charla, Connie, and the blond one who used to be a "show girl" in a circus. I like Kimberly, too.I believe that in person, she's a very nice person. The pretty new brunette who was a Miss America runner up said a few days ago that a necklace "laid acrost my neck." Yes, 'laid' and 'acrost.' Don't they teach English in school anymore? (Should be "It lay across my neck." While I'm at it, maybe someone could tell the hosts that "anyways" is hillbilly language. For non-hillbillies, the word is "anyway." These are some of my pet peeves. I still think it's the best of the shopping channels.

  23. QVC is a joke! Their Corporate office is running amuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! QVC IS SINKING!

  24. Poor grammar is a major pet peeve of mine too!

  25. I have found the quality and prices to be great on ShopNBC. In fact, I have even sold much of what I purchased to a gold seller and others for MORE than what I paid after I used the items for a while and wanted something new. As far as Pam McCoy, I have some jackets and they are very nicely done and priced, better than the overpriced malls where everyone is wearing the same thing! I would not judge someone personally that I don't know by others' comments. I'm sure there's more to the story that gossip doesn't report.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I noticed that Pam and Wes are gone gone gone from SHOP NBC. Isn't that too bad!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have shopped at all 3 channels and have never had a problem with NBC. If I send it back I get the quickest refund from them than any of the other 2. Their Jewelry is the nicest. Qvc I get my makeup and it is sealed so that is good. Hsn I get a few things from also. The only thing I see wrong with NBC is that they are going now in the wrong direction. They sold nice stuff now it is going to the watch world and lower junk. I miss Charla as she was one of the best host ever.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like QVC for make-up and some jewelery. HSN is good for clearance costume rings and clearance wallets(?). SNBC has great watches and I have gotten some very unique purses at great prices. I only saw the McCoys host once or twice. They were a bit too oochie goochie together. I have noticed that the large (tall) worn looking older woman who spoke very loudly is now gone too. What happened to her?? She was crazy but in a good way. SNBC has a new brunette that bores me to tears and now Dave zzzz King is on SNBC. They should put Lisa Robertson on SNBC too

  29. I can't believe Pamela stole that jacket! Not nice of her. She seems to have gained some weight in her hips.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have about 20 leather jackets & coats from PMC. Some date back to 10 years and still look fantastic. I also have leather jackets that cost 3 times as much from retail stores, and they look like crap after just a few years. I take very good care of my clothing. With this said, I think Pam McCoy is a good designer who produces quality merchandise. Every time I wear something from the PMC line, I get compliments. So, I don't really care about what she wears or her relationship with her husband, or her grammar. To me. this has no impact on her designing efforts/capabilities. As long as she keeps producing merchandise that flatters me, is good quality and meets my budget, that is all that matters to me. I have never had any issues with returns and exchanges. I have never made an on air review but have written many. Yes. I have received $10 - $25 credits, but I think these are random rewards. No one at SHOPNBC has ever asked me to give a review for payment. By contrast, most of the clothing I've purchased from QVC and HSN look worn after a few wearings.
I think you are making horrible accusations and labeling/judging people you don't know personally.
BTW. Pamela & Wes McCoy and Charla Rines were fired. The company claims 'cutbacks'. Strange that there are new and younger hosts. Pamela was brought back as a vendor. I'm sure that must be terribly awkward for her, and I applaud her.

  33. I have never had a problem with QVC or HSN but SNBC has horrible customer service.I worked in cust svc for 30 yrs & they are the worse. It takes me 5-6x to get an answer from someone. They dont credit you correctly. If Pamela MCCoy do you really think she would take a chance but ruining her lifetime passion? "I dont think so!" Maybe it was someone on her design team,we'll never know. Why didnt Louis contact her himself or have his attny contact her. I think the problem was resolved.

  34. I can't believe Pamela McCoy thought she could get away with copying. Just how bright are the viewers on these shopping channels, anyway!

  40. Pam does not seem sincere in her selling and she does use poor English. She went all out witht he make up and hair extensions now and is trying to look so glamourous. 43. I shop all 3, QVC, HSN and Shop NBC only for Pam's stuff which is superior design to Linea. Pam's jackets can't be beat by Bradley, TL when she was on HSN or Linea. Louis should have been flattered the design was used again! Bad form Louis, it is a compliment. And let's face it, you all copy from all the great designers!!! People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones or Coco would be rolling over in her grave right now...

So what if Pam copied one of Del Olio's designs. Everything is a copy of something couture. What I truly hate are the words MADE IN CHINA. All the shopping channels are too high priced. 50.00 bucks for jeggings from china. I am personally sick of it and have decided to save my money for quality not quantity. I will still watch from time to time and maybe buy something on easy pay if it is a good deal but I will not listen to Lisa Robertson every time she says that she loves some item it sells out. She cannot stop looking at herself on the camera. I think she is one of the biggest phonies. Just my opinion! I hate that Bronze crap from Italy. It is worthless. Try and resell it. If I cannot buy precious metals, I do not want anything. I refuse to buy all that junk from Joan Rivers. She has enough money. I do not feel like paying for her next vacation to Paris or Italy. OK, I am done.

You're 100% right. Lisa Robertson ( I can't stand her!) is the biggest phony on TV and I can't wait for her just to go away. She should follow her girlfriend's steps (that is Patty Riley) and spoof. They're both full on themselves and ripping women off. Disgusting! as for the rest of the QVC hosts, they're just ok. HSN and Shop NBC have phonies too.

  46. Wow. Plus and minus on all the shopping channels-personally love PMC products. Each one was well made, stylish and fit perfectly, until she relaxed the fit. As an XS, nowhere else to
'go down a size' to, and the intro of the XXS were just proportioned funny for me. Oh well.
QVC has the best customer service- never a problem. My biggest problem with them was WEN. Loved and used the Pomegranate Cleanser/Conditioner. Was under a ton of stress, and hair was coming out in handfuls-I mean from day one-thought I was simply shedding hair ready to leave me anyway! I have long, thick wavy hair, that I have always been happy with, and now a pony tail was thinner. Freaking out. Never dreamed it could be related to the WEN until my husband went online to see if others had the same problem, and there were countless reports equating hair loss to the product. Apparently, it is a follicle clogging problem with who knows which ingredients. I didn't just assume that. I actually went to a famous hair loss company for their complimentary analysis, and it was the follicles being clogged (and, draw your own conclusion,WEN was the only product I was using). I actually talked to one of Chaz Dean's people regarding the issue, and although very nice, of course would not admit to anything. Switched to Aveda Invati and day one, only a few strands, not handfuls! Anyway, I had just bought the gallon size. QVC refunded me every penny. It does annoy me,though, when I still see each host on a WEN show praising it, and I always find it amusing that the models' and hosts' hair is never consistently gorgeous- only on the WEN shows, which should be strange, if they all love it so...

The Tianna B dress under Carsons name on ShopHQ just knocked my socks off! I got it off the rack for $20. And for SHOPHQ to say they ONLY carry Carson when QVC has his clothes too is just...WOW! I was ripped off by SHq when I sent a $200 watch back and never refunded. But trust me I got them back. I Ordered 2 invictas on easy pay and cancelled my card. The best is QVC. No issues ever. They are the classiest. HSN is a close 2nd.
