ShopNBC's Circular Firing Squad

You better duck! The mud and lawsuits are flying at ShopNBC and it ain’t pretty, y’all.

Just to catch you up on all the dirt that’s been going on: ShopNBC can’t ever manage to make a profit, so there has been lots of executive musical chairs, hirings, firings, and circular finger pointing.

Last year, the Chairman of the Board, John Buck—remember that name, he comes into play quite a bit in this little soap opera--canned the current CEO, William Lansing, after he couldn’t manage to pull ShopNBC out of the red after 3 ½ years on the job. Buck replaced him with Rene Aiu amongst great fanfare. But, unfortunately, the honeymoon didn’t last. After only six months, Back canned Aiu too.

But Aui is fighting back in a lawsuit that alleges all kinds of juicy and interesting tidbits.

Aiu claims that when she was hired, Buck and his Board of Merry Men approved her long-term turnaround plan and allowed her to hire several veterans of the home shopping industry.

However, Buck did not approve of Aiu’s plan to cut pay for the top executives as a sign of unity with the company’s poor shareholders. He may run the company into the ground, fire all the workers, cut pay and benefits for everyone else, but he draws the line at cutting his own compensation. He’s a man of principles, people. It’s all about the principles.

The suit also alleges Buck is basically a bully who “intimidated employees who disagreed with him and pressured vendors for discounts, creating a culture of distrust and ill will.”

Also, Aiu and her new management team discovered—as I have wrote about many, many times—business among repeat customers was disappearing. But Buck and the Board of Merry Men had absolutely no idea this was happening, which begs the question—are they clueless or stupid? Honestly, how could they not know this?

Bucks answer to the problem? Fire the new management team.

This thinking is equivalent to changing doctors because you didn’t like your cancer diagnosis. Everything will be fine if you can just find a doctor that will tell you that you don’t have cancer.

A few days later, Buck sacked Aiu and other senior managers. And just to put the cherry on top of the sundae, he crowned himself CEO.

I’m liking this Rene lady more and more every day. She’s scrappy and she seems to know what the hell is going on.

  1. hehehe. What a trainwreck!

Any idea on what the exact nature is of the relationship Pam McCoy seems to enjoy with management. Lately, if it's not craptastic laptops, or watches; it's McCoy Vision. I would think her market for faux furs and lambskin would be beyond saturated at this point.

Or, she's perfected subliminal mind control and her McCoybots are powerless to stop. LOL

  2. You know, Pam does seem to rule the roost around there. There's got to be something to that.

You know, I have heard callers say to Pam that they had whatever coat she was presenting that they have it in every color or that they have three closes full of her coats and jackets. A fool and her money ...

  3. They are running out of vendors?

Their business plan of selling defectively cheap electronics has ruined any repeat sale business.

I don't need anymore overpriced jewelry, chinese stained glass lamps, any crap electronics (made that mistake once) any Pam McCoy crap.

They have way to narrow a line up, selling 'wants' rather than 'needs' in this climate
    is a disaster.

Having been burned once by them, I hope they go broke and so do thousands of people who bought their defective computers, flat screen tvs cameras etc who found that their in home warranty amounted to a busy signal when calling for warranty repairs.

    Ripoff Report Verified Safe

I thought that my hard earned and long saved money was going to buy the best computer out there, according to the hosts on Shop NBC. I'm a senior and disabled so this really hurts. The computer never worked, the service was horrible and I had to give up because the stress wasn't worth the trouble in the end. I've probably spent as much on repairs as the darn thing cost and I paid for additional insurance which I never recieved. They charged me two hundred dollars and never sent me a policy, a phone number to call for service or to follow up....NOTHING. I am angry and frustrated but feel powerless and hope that a class action suit will finally happen and soon. This is a disgrace. Shame on you, Shop NBC, for not doing something to help your customers. I will never shop with you again and have spread the word so that others won't either.

The scum bag lying hosts know they are selling junk, anything for a buck.

  5. Wow, I was a loyal Shopnbc customer (or Value Vision) since 1997. Over the past year, I have switched to HSN. Why? Well, they are modern and up to date, and they always have flex pays, which makes it easier for me to budget my money. SNBC pronounced last year the end of value pays, which was their death sentence for me. Also, almost every vendor that I have loved disappears daily, one by one. Meredith Borowski, Richard Palermo, Michael Scheinman (18K elegance) and even the Jacobs have flown the coop. What are they doing to their vendors? Most recently, I noticed that the Find and WDNY are no longer on. Lisa Roberts is a local vendor in MN. Every other day they have a watch as TSV. It's painful to watch as they kill themselves. Quelle disaster is all I can say.

  6. I don't know who is running ShopNBC right now but it seems they are trying to run it into the ground offering poor quality products that are so outdated.

It is like watching a very poor quality QVC from many years ago.

I must say it is fun to watch the show for the comedy value instead of a customer.

  7. Does anyone else think it's strange that Leslie and the models were wearing halos during her last visit to QVC while promoting her Bare MIneral foundation since Smashbox has a mineral powder called Halo?

  8. What happened to Wes Mccoy and Pam. They are no longer hosting?

  9. I just happened to order three pieces of jewelry from ShopNBC and each item had a $6.99 shipping charge. They mailed them all in the same envelope and charged me almost $21 and the package took 14 days to arrive. I have emailed them twice hoping they would reimbuse me something. I have spent thousands of dollars with them through the years. I guess if they want to lose my business for a few bucks, they will. I am really disgruntled. I've made up my mind not to order from them anymore anyway as 99% of their jewelry anymore is made in China with paper thin gold and I3 grade diamonds.

  11. I noticed last night that a host got very nervous when a vendor mentioned the gold gram weight of a .50 diamond pendant:it was a puny 4 grams. She could not change the subject fast enough. Thankfully the great vendors are finding homes on the other networks - Dallas Prince is now on HSN.

  12. I agree that charging the full shipping for all items sent in the same envelope was a big turn off for me as well (not to mention a rip-off). Though I did like receiving all my items in one package.

  14. Very Interesting stuff. I used to be a Director there back in the 90's when it was called Value Vision. I know the host's of that era very well.

  15. SNBC SELLS TIN FOIL HOLLOW SILICONE FILLED GOLD NOW. DO NOT BUY THEIR GOLD ESPECIALLY FROM STEFANO. WHAT A DISGRACE TO JEWELRY. AND VALUE PAY NEEDS TO COME BACK LIKE IT WAS WITH 6 PAYMENTS ALL THE TIME, NOT JUST FOR A SHOW PERIOD. ALL THE GOODE VENDORS ARE BAILING EXCEPT FOR MR. LALO OF INVICTA. A REPUTABLE MAN WITH QUALITY PRODUCT LOOKING OUT FOR THE AVERAGE JOE. I LOVE INVICTA !!!!

  16. I saw the silicon filled piece of junk as well....I suspect they tried it to see if it would fly, as all their gold is so lightweight now. But customers would be upset if they accidently pierce the gold foil and get sticky silicone all over their clothes and skin. They no longer give the gram weight out over the air but it is usually included on line. I know that if a bracelet is less than 20 grams it will be too flimsy to wear well(a bangle or wide type)and I have seen some bangles that are 5-7 grams! Just another example of SNBC pushing crap. So sad, I used to spend thousands with them every year.
Also has anyone noticed that the new line of "tiffany style" lamps are nowhere near as nice as Margies? I was glad to see Laura Duffek back, but disappointed that she would rep such junk.

  17. now they are firing all of the staff and the CS agents have to have to be off the call in 4 mintes or they get fired... and that would explain for the longer waittime when i call in. Those poor agents who work CS

  18. I was a huge supporter and a loyal customer of value vision. When it became shopnbc and I heard the death bells ringing. Unfortunately I bought some jewelry based on the reputation of value vision. Never again.
Is there anyplace to find the quality and prices, plus honesty of the old value vision?

  19. QVC IS SELLING YOU SILICONE AT TRIPLE THE PRICE!! OR PLATED! DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE QVC IS SELLING YOU REAL GOLD WHEN THEY ARE SELLING VERONSE????? QVC CAN'T SEEM TO SELL MUCH BUT BANNED TO MANY PEOPLE UNJUST AND MOST OF GET BURNED ONCE AND DO NOT NEED TO BE BURNED AGAIN FOR ANOTHER REMINDER!! STOP BUYING!!!!!!TOO RISKY!!!!!!

  20. Is Liquadition channel still selling bad product to and is their Customer Service Reps still calling their Customers UGLY on the phone???? QVC and LIQUADTION CHANNEL should get together. They act alike and sell faulty jewelry if they are selling anything at all. The hosts jump around so much, the vendors jump ship, all the networks are starting to blur and look alike.

  21. What has happened to Lambert Chang on ShopNBC? That was the last host with at least real gold with some intrinsic value.
