Bob Mackie Doesn't Think Cher Looks Like a Drag Queen

''She wears everything with such ease,'' says Mackie, her partner in sartorial success. "Not like a drag queen.''

Light up gold capes ... glittering genie pants ... feathered headdress ... Could it be Queen Bea in her casual attire relaxing on the couch? Nope. That's the sound of Cher coming out of retirement.

Cher just opened her new show at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace and, of course, QVC fashion designer extraordinaire, Bob Mackie, created all the over-the-top and flashy costumes expected at a Cher show. She has 17 costume changes and manages to bare more than just the cheeks on her face.

Mackie had just four weeks to complete all the creations (Queen Bea smells a Project Runway challenge brewing!). "The costumes were engineered more than designed," Mackie says. ''It was like building a battleship with all the pieces and layers."

Cher will spend the next three years performing at Caesars Palace, alternating with Bette Midler and Elton John, but Mackie is on to his next job. A couple of weeks ago, he made a sparkly dress for Tina Turner when she joined Cher in Vegas for an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Turner announced on the show that she plans to tour in October, and she has asked Mackie to help.

However, Cher doesn't want any other divas to get their paws on Mackie--she told him that she was hurt that he let Beyonce borrow one of his creations. Besides, can't Beyonce just borrow some clothes from her mom's Miss Tina line on HSN?
