Is Pamela McCoy a Copycat?

Louis Dell'Olio, designer of the Linea fashion line on QVC, is in his own words "livid!"

Why?

Well, it seems as though a certain host/designer at ShopNBC has stolen his design.

Take a look at this Linea jacket from the front:

Now let's move onto Exhibit B, shall we?

Once again, take a look at this particular Pamela McCoy jacket from the front:

So, what do you think?

Here's what Louis had to say about it on his QVC blog:

To my amazement and DISGUST....I saw MY JACKET, copied to a "T" by Ms. Pamela McCoy. Let me assure you, the design is MINE and she copied it. I was under the impression Ms. McCoy was a host....at best a host/stylist....not a designer. My jacket was first introduced Oct. of 07 in black and red. It was reordered and we introduced "Purple" as the new color this year. This particular jacket, A74432, was part of a series of what I called my "Leather and Stud" embellished suede jackets, [A14945, A1284, A37843]. .....I CAN TELL YOU WHERE Ms. McCoy got her idea from.....shame on her! If you should ever run into that lady again you can proudly tell her she got ripped off.....You have the original...she has the copy.....and she paid $48 more for it to boot!.....Monday morning I will have a conversation with my manufacturer and my buyer at QVC to see if anything can be done about this blatant copy. Unfortunately, in this country, there are no laws against it. I am on the board of directors of the CFDA [Council of Fashion Designers of America], and we are having meetings right now, in Congress, on copy rite laws protecting clothing and accessory design. I thank you for bringing this to my attention and be assured you have the ORIGINAL!

Louis Dell'Olio was so upset by the stolen design that he had his lawyer write a letter to the CEO of ShopNBC to complain about the design infringement. Unfortunately for Mr. Dell'Olio, ShopNBC is on the verge of total anarchy and collapse, so they probably don't care very much about a jacket. Plus, their CEO gets all kinds of scathing letters. This is just another one to throw onto the pile.

So far, here's what's come of the letter to newly-crowned ShopNBC CEO, Mr. Buck:

A last word on the Pamela McCoy incident. As I mentioned, my lawyer sent a letter, on my behalf, to the CEO of Shop NBC. We received no response..........their silence.......speaks volumns.

In case you didn't already know, Louis Dell'Olio knows a thing or two about the fashion industry. According to the Council of Fashion Designers of America:

Louis Dell'Olio attended Parsons School of Design, and from there moved on to work as a major designer at Anne Klein for nearly 20 years, receiving numerous prestigious industry awards including an induction into the COTY Hall of Fame in 1984. In 1995, Mr. Dell'Olio became a consultant to Marzotto USA to assist in the design and merchandising of its Accento bridge collection of women's apparel. Also in 1995, in a position unprecedented in the fashion industry, Mr. Dell'Olio was engaged by a joint venture among Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Holt Renfrew as design director for a unique designer collection of women's apparel. Since 1995, Mr. Dell'Olio has been designing a line of furs and shearlings under his own label for the Le Gar Company, which retails in Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Marshall Fields, Neiman Marcus, and boutiques across the country. He also designs women's and men's shoes and men's suits. In 2000, he entered into an agreement with QVC to design an exclusive line of sportswear under the label LINE A by Louis Dell'Olio, which was so successful during its first year that Mr. Dell'Olio won QVC's prestigious Q Star Award for Product Concept of the Year.

Today's Blue Plate Special ... Shady Pines

QVC's TSV is a Motto Stretch Denim 3/4 Sleeve Jacket with Yoke Detail. Ummm ... two words ... Mom Jeans. Yuck.

I can't wait for tonight!!! Ann King has the TSV and it's Silver Designer Day ... my favorite special day that the Q does all year! It's a Major Award!!!

"Tonight! Tonight! It's coming Tonight! Tonight! Tonight! Tonight! Hot Damn, Tonight!"

The HSN TS is an Antthony Asymmetrical Tunic and Pants 2-piece Set. I don't like this. Not that I don't enjoy listening to Antthony, but this is Bea Arthur-esque (I loooves me some Golden Girls, chickadees!) Plus you would have to be as tall as Bea to pull it off.

The ShopNBC OTV is another watch--Invicta Men's Swiss Russian Diver Retrograde Bracelet Watch. What is with ShopNBC and the watches? I do like this one, but not all men could pull it off something so bold and trendy.

Today's Blue Plate Specials ... Is it Cold in Here?

The QVC TSV is a Denim & Co. Reversible Leather to Suede Zip Front Jacket. I love the concept of this--one price and I get a neutral, classic leather coat that reverses to a colorful suede jacket. Love this! The colors and sizes are going fast, y'all! I'm rather fond of the chocolate/orange one myself, very fall fabulous.

The ShopNBC OTV is a Pamela McCoy Zip Front Quilted Metallic Leather Jacket. Apparently it's leather jacket day in Home Shopping Land! But I guess since Christmas was last week in Home Shopping Land, this makes sense. This leather jacket has a pearlized finish and the world famous Pamela "Oh Wes!" McCoy look-like-you-just-lost-10-pounds cut. I like Pam's jackets, but sometimes they boarder on Michael-Jackson-Beat-It style!

The HSN TS is an Olympus 18X Wide-Angle Ultra-Zoom SLR-Style Digital Camera. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert at cameras. I am going to say that 18x optical zoom sends a tingle all the way to my toes! I love to zoom--and not that dumb old grainy digital zoom either.

Today's Blue Plate Specials ... Hot Leather!

ShopNBC has more summer leather with the Pamela McCoy Zip Front Reptile-Print Leather Jacket. I still don't understand why they keep doing all this leather when we're closing in on the Fourth of July. In fact, Pamela McCoy just had a leather OTV not that long ago! However, this jacket is totally smokin' hawt! In the good way! Queen Bea is drooling ...

HSN's TS is a Gem Essence Interchangeable Gemstone 30" Pendant Watch. My aunt gave me a watch necklace when I was a kid (I think she probably got it from Avon) and I loved it. Like a middle-aged man with his new Rolex, I thought I was so cool and was always looking for an excuse to tell people what time it was.

Anyway, this particular necklace watch seems to be good in theory, but I worry that the chain will break, or the stones will fall out or crack, or the watch will just completely poop out. I don't know. At least it doesn't have anything to do with cleavage.

QVC has a comfy Carole Hochman Capri Pajama Set with Robe as their TSV today. At first, I wasn't particularly impressed. I mean it looked fine, but nothing to write home about. But then I saw the built in bra in the top and it won me over! You can relax and be comfortable without being obscene if someone comes to the door or the air conditioner makes the room a tad to chilly. The girls just need a little extra support while they're lounging!

And don't forget that Barbara Bixby is on today at 6 (Queen Bea does the happy dance!). The only sneak previews I have are here.

QVC TSV: Yes, You Can Dress like Cher Too!

Bob Mackie's Embroidered Cutout Jacket & Short Sleeve T-Shirt

Item# A80937

$49.68
No Easy Pays
Sizes XS through 3X
Choice of Back/Pink, Aqua/Black, or White/Yellow colors

Here's what Mr. Mackie--infamous designer for the dragqueenalicious Cher--had to say about the design: "This sporty, ultra-feminine, cut-out embroidered jacket is the perfect piece to wear with your dressiest or most casual basics. It'll certainly perk up your spring and summer wardrobes."

At least, unlike a certain other shopping channel *cough*shopnbc*cough*, he's realizes that it's actually summer and therefore HOT (yes, Queen Bea's looking straight at you and your leather, Pamela McCoy).

I like the 3/4 kabuki-style sleeves on the jacket and the fact that it comes with a shirt that's dyed to match; however as soon as I read "hand wash, hang dry," it was a no-deal. Queen Bea is not a washer woman and hates dry cleaners--more of a stright up wash-n-wear kind of a chick ... I mean, queenly queen.

ShopNBC OTV: Leather in June!

Pamela McCoy Croco-Embossed Leather Jacket

Item# A16975

$89.95
5 ValuePays of $17.99
Sizes XS through 3X
Colors Aloe, Cantelope, Denim, White

Oh, Pamela! What are you thinking, darling? Leather in June? Who is picking these OTV's? Anyone? Anyone? This just makes no sense. Are they trying to get the hard-to-reach Alaska demographic???

As to the jacket ... love croco-embossed leather, love the buckle and zipper hardware details (sometimes Pamela gets a little too crazy with the hardware), love the lining and the special armpit sweat guards ... cause trust me, honey, you're gonna need them if you're gonna wear a leather jacket in June! And, of course, Pamela did her super special look-like-you-just-lost-ten-pounds princess seaming trick. Queen Bea enjoys any trick that makes her look skinny (skinnier ... less chubby ... whatever!).
