Literally, Have an Amazing, Amazing Turkey Day!

My in-laws are here and I've got a Butterball in the oven, y'all!

I've been shopping, chopping, cooking, cleaning, and baking for days now and I'm now officially over it.

Mr. Queen Bea requested homemade apple and chocolate pecan pies, which took hours to make and bake on Tuesday night. Yesterday I worked all day to make all the sides plus I made a turkey for a friend (between her kids, grandkids, and foster kids, she has roughly twenty rugrats running around the house at any given time, so trust me when I say that she needs the help!)

I decided to try brining my turkey this year to avoid the usual tasteless, sawdusty sorry excuse for a bird. So I ended up with a 15-pound turkey soaking in salty water sitting on my porch all night--ahhh, the magic of the holidays. Hopefully it works out like Alton Brown says it will and I don't send everyone to the hospital (yes, I watch too much Food Network this time of year!)

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll be back to posting soon!

I'm thankful I found your blog. You totally crack me up and I just love reading all the dish about the various shopping networks and personalities! And it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one with feelings about the "gift drawer."

Got to run - watching this Philosophy show on the Q is making me hungry...

  3. Good news on the brine! This year's turkey was by far the best turkey I have ever made. Alton Brown is right. Take the time to brine the turkey, people ... it is well worth the effort.

I keep seeing these Diamonique commercials on the Q that show these big pave hoops, but I can't find them online. After this weekend, I need and deserve some big sparkly pave hoops.

In-laws are leaving today so I'll be posting again as soon as I recover (speaking of, where are those damn hoops????)

  4. mmmmmm! Do you take mail-order on those Chocolate Pecan pies?

Your friend sounds like an angel to a lot of lucky kids; and you a Thanksgiving angel to do a turkey for her. :)
    Happy Holidays!
